Putting pen to paper. Toying with a tablet. Collaging together clippings. Carving up a print. From packaging design to commissions to doodles on nearly every page of notes I take, my verve for visuals just won’t quit.
Collage
One woman’s trash is another woman’s art supplies. I’ve accumulated piles and piles of magazine clippings over the years for creative use. Collage is one of my favorite art forms because it’s one of the most freeing and improvisational. I stare at massive piles of raw material and am suddenly struck by a texture, color, or shape that pulls an image from the ether. Then I dive in with my scissors and glue, patching together tiny elements into a greater whole that I feel out in real time.

Bike Smut
An incredibly silly and specific event that focused on erotic films featuring bicycles. Not only did promotions contribute to a sold-out show, but bicycle shops around Denver had to get multiple copies because they kept getting stolen by customers!

AAFG Holiday Sale
As Vice President of the Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild, I planned and marketed their first sale post-COVID. We ended up drawing in a huge group of customers, and members sold an average of twice as much as any sale in 20+ years!
Digital Illustration
Working at branding agencies gave me the opportunity to stretch my drawing skills digitally, whipping up concepts on tight deadlines and bringing a pop of personality to packaging design and magazine stories. Creativity with constraints took the knowhow to navigate regulatory restrictions and the ingenuity to find unexpected solutions that would be eye-catching on the shelf or news stand.

Bored in Class
As a diehard doodler and personal archivist, I amassed a huge collection of doodles, branding concepts, and artistic exploration over the years. This show gave me a chance to hunt through it all to offer a strange buffet of musings. Due to the show’s 2020 timing, viewing was cut short and I changed course to sell each piece as a fundraiser for Minneapolis arts orgs, Black-owned businesses, and mutual aid.

Pen & Marker
My native artistic tongue is pen on paper. Doodling helps me concentrate, so all of my notebooks are filled with cartoonishly kooky stuff next to serious note taking. I still send snail mail to folks (like the Downer Owl postcards) and like giving people private little jokes as presents. Drawing is the natural way that I connect with myself and others, and it will always be my love language.
